What’s New at Specialty Growers?

Last fall, we created a new Peony Display Garden! Peonies are gaining in popularity, so we wanted to provide our customers with an opportunity to compare many peony varieties side by side. Because this garden is very young, we don’t expect all of the peonies to bloom this spring, but its position in full sun and compost-enriched soil ensure that the plants will grow well and fill out quickly. We know it will be both rewarding and educational as the years go by.

We’ve also begun work on our new Native Plant Garden. Most likely, our busy schedule will delay our planting until late summer, but we’re getting a head-start on the project by greatly increasing the number of native species and cultivars we carry. Click on the left-hand link for Natives for a complete list. Also, look for the N symbol preceding plant names in the Perennials section of the catalog.

We’re Different

We know that you’ll enjoy a unique shopping experience at Specialty Growers. You’ll find display gardens featuring Perennials, Hostas, Ornamental Grasses and Shade Plants. We hope these gardens will help you gather ideas for your own gardens. Our plants are all grown right here, not shipped in from other areas, and because we grow our plants outdoors under natural conditions, they adapt and establish better in the garden. The nursery is laid out in a naturalistic style, utilizing various microclimates to grow the plants that are best suited to those conditions. Stroll through each section of the nursery -- you’re bound to find some unexpected treasures!
