The following vegetable varieties have been selected for superior flavor and unique characteristics.

Some are hard-to-find specialty items, some are heirloom varieties, and others are improvements on

traditional garden varieties.  Packs of 3 or 4 plants, $2.00 per pack.

 

 

 

Cucumber

‘Diva Hybrid’ - 2002 AAS Winner.  Very heavy yield of crisp, sweet cukes.  Disease resistant.  58 days

‘Orient Express’ - Long oriental type, crisp crunchy flavor.  Stake for long, straight fruits.  64 days

‘Sweet Slice’- Sweet, burpless 10-12" fruits are mild and tender, no peeling necessary.  62 days

 

Eggplant

‘Blacknite’ – A fine oval-fruited hybrid, with deep purple fruits about 9” in length.  61 days

‘Rosa Bianca’ – An old Italian variety with beautiful rose and white striped fruits.  75 days

 

Greens

Arugula - The unmistakable salad spiker!  Mildly pungent flavor.  Prefers cool weather.  40 days

Mesclun ‘Mild Mix’ – Red and green lettuces, plus assorted American and Oriental greens.  Pre-mixed for perfect salad making!

Mesclun ‘Spicy Mix’ – Blend of European and Oriental greens, with emphasis on spicy and pungent flavors.  Use as an addition to lettuce salads, or as a stir-fry mixture

Swiss Chard ‘Bright Lights’ - Rainbow color!  So attractive it can be planted in a flower bed.  55 days

 

Lettuce

‘Freckles’ - Beautiful Romaine type, green with an overlay of red speckling.  Slow to bolt.  55 days

‘Lolla Rossa’ – Frilly red leaves.  Grow as leaf lettuce, or allow to mature to small heads.  30-58 days

‘Royal Red’ – A tender leaf lettuce, green tinged red. 45 days

 

 

Peppers – Hot

    ‘Anaheim’- Medium heat, elongated dark green fruits, ripening to bright red.  75 days        

    ‘Ancho’ – Heart-shaped fruits, 4”x2.5” at the shoulder, medium thick walls.  Blackish green   

    becoming rust-red at maturity.  Quite mild. Dried peppers are the source of chili powder.  75 days

‘Cayenne’- Long red chili.  Quite hot.  Great for drying and wreaths.  High yielding.  70 days

    ‘Cayenne Purple – Very ornamental, with lavender flowers turning into 3” long, thin purple

peppers, a bit smaller than regular Cayenne. Very hot.  70 days

‘Early Jalapeno’ - Hot, deep green fruit.  Early to bear. Ideal for Mexican cooking.  60 days

    ‘Fajita Hybrid’ – Barely hot, for those who’d like a sweet bell pepper with just a bit of heat! 75 days

‘Fooled You’ Jalapeno - For those who prefer a milder jalapeno.  Perfect for nachos!  65 days

‘Hot Paper Lantern’ - Earlier and much more productive than Habanero, they pack the same

blistering heat! Beautiful elongated and wrinkled lantern-shaped fruits.  70 days lime green,

‘Hungarian Yellow Wax’ – Spicy, fairly hot, banana-shaped fruit.  Matures yellow to red.  67 days

‘Mariachi’ – Excellent new hybrid, 2006 AAS winner.  Blunt, cone-shaped fruits with very mild heat,

    great for eating raw, grilling, cooking and pickling.  Bears early, matures yellow to red. 66 days

 ‘Serrano del Sol’ - Hybrid Serrano, earlier and bigger than older varieties. Hot; not intense.  62 days

 

Peppers - Sweet

    ‘Ace Hybrid’ - Main season bell pepper, fruits very nearly square.  Green maturing to red.  72 days.

‘Fat N’ Sassy’ - Extra-early bell pepper.  Large green peppers mature to red.  61 days

‘Golden Calwonder’ - Golden form of the famous ‘California Wonder’.  Smooth and glossy.  72 days

‘Islander’ - Lavender ripening through shades of yellow, orange and red.  Our favorite!  56-81 days

‘King of the North’ - One of the best for Northern climates, big blocky green bells.  68 days

    ‘Rainbow Blend’ -  A blend of varieties.  Allow to fully mature.  Mature colors include red, orange, yellow, purple, brown and ivory.  Harvest immature for green peppers.  60-85 days

‘Red Beauty’ - Impressive 4-lobed fruits with thick, sweet flesh.  High yielding.  68 days

‘Sweet Banana’ – Mild banana pepper with long tapered light yellow fruits, maturing red. 65 days

‘Valencia’ - Very sweet bell pepper that matures to a beautiful shade of orange.  70 days

‘Yummy Hybrid’New for 2008! Loads of petite, deliciously sweet 2.5” x 1” fruits, perfect for veggie    

    trays, used with dips, stuffed with cheese, or grilled on skewers.  A great snacking pepper.  73 days

 

 

Pumpkin

‘Fairytale’ - Similar shape to Cinderella, but with tan, oak color, looks like a wood carving! 110 days

    ‘Kakai’ - Striped fruits with delicious “pumpkin nuts”, completely hulless, delicious roasted.  100 days

‘Rouge Vif D’Etampes’ - The Cinderella pumpkin!  Grown for centuries in France, this pumpkin

resembles Cinderella’s coach.  Heavily ribbed fruits are flattened in shape.  Decorative.  115 days

‘Wee-B-Little’ – Tiny round pumpkins, perfect for painting or fall decoration.  AAS Winner.  95 days

 Hybrids – Round: Medium and Large Fruited

    ‘Big Beef’ - Modern breeding at its best!  Classic Beefsteak flavor and size with high yield and

‘Carnival’ – A determinate hybrid with the same qualities as its sister, ‘Celebrity’. 68 days

    ‘Celebrity’ – This AAS winner has medium-sized globe-shaped fruits and multiple disease

    ‘New Girl Hybrid’ – New, very early variety with great taste.  An improved ‘Early Girl’, better tasting

Cherry and Grape Tomatoes

‘Black Cherry’-Distincitive, very dark purple fruit.  Large productive vines. 80 days

    ‘Cherry Grande’ - For those who prefer a “traditional” tomato flavor in a cherry tomato.  74 days

‘Husky Cherry Red’ - Loads of 1" cherries on compact, dwarf plants, perfect for containers.  65 days

‘Sungold’ - Almost tropical sweetness in a golden-orange cherry tomato.  Yields hundreds of jewel-like fruits all season.  Large, robust vines.  Very early.  One of our best sellers!  57 days

‘Sweet Olive’  Grape Tomato - Sweet, bite-size, firm oval fruits.   Early, and very popular.  57 days

‘Sweet 100 Hybrid’ - The tomato that started the revolution in ultra-sweet cherry tomatoes!  Round, red, super-sweet cherry tomatoes, borne in long clusters.  65 days

     

Plum and other Small-Fruited Tomatoes

    ‘Green Zebra’ – The fully ripened 2-4 oz fruits are pale green with deep green stripes,

with real old-time tomato flavor.  Beautiful and unique!  Vigorous, determinate vines. 78 days

    ‘Health Kick’ - New plum tomato with twice the content of the beneficial anti-oxidant lycopene.

    ‘Plum Dandy’ - Plump, elongated Roma type tomatoes.  Compact plants.  Determinate.  75 days

‘Roma’ – The most well-known paste-type tomato. Meaty fruits with few seeds; excellent for sauce  

    and cooking. Also makes a great salad tomato.  Productive, determinate vines. 75 days

    ‘Tomcat Hybrid’ - Cluster-type tomato, bright red 2-3 oz fruits.  Indeterminate.  69 days

    ‘San Marzano’ – Classic Italian plum.  Firm, long rectangular fruits.  Inderterminate. 80 days

    ‘Yellow Pear’ – High yields of 2” very sweet, mild, yellow pear-shaped fruits.  Heirloom.  78 days

Authentic salsa ingredient.  Remove papery husk, chop and blend with tomatoes, onions, hot peppers, cilantro and vinegar or lemon juice to make salsa.

    ‘Toma Verde’  - Early-maturing, flattened-round greenish yellow fruits.  Tart when green, they

    become sweeter if allowed to turn yellow.  60-80 days
